Seminar in Teaching English Course showcases “On Stage”
Students in Seminar in English Course showcased “On Stage” during the Moral and Ethics Camp held at Muak Lek, Saraburi, Thailand on 19 January 2019 from 1pm – 3pm.
With the theme “Conquering Stage Fright”, “On Stage” is a poetry reading activity participated by 14 students enrolled in the 151 604 Seminar in Teaching English class handled by Dr. Ma. Arlen Arellado, Lecturer of St. Theresa International College.
Poetry reading is an event in which people read poems that they have written aloud. In this activity, the students would read the poem “Richard Cory” by Edwin Arlington Robinson. This poem is about a man who seems to have it all, and that town folks who are clearly from a lower financial class put him on a pedestal. Everybody seems to be like him. In the end, they learned a valuable lesson. Richard Cory killed himself.
To grace the occasion, Aj. Dario A. Mando, Head of English Department under the Faculty of Education, gave the inspirational message, followed by: a small lecture by the teacher in charge, the announcement of the criteria, the competition proper, the announcement of winners, and the closing remarks.
The contest had the following criteria:
- Enthusiasm (fully capture the ambiance through the feelings in the voice) – 30%
- Body language (appropriate facial expression) – 20%
- Pronunciation (articulation, diction enunciation) – 20%
- Voice (can easily vary voice inflection) – 10%
- Pacing (appropriate pauses) – 10%
- Audience impact – 10%
The following winners were announced by the Chief judge Aj. Leo Anthony Flores: Anantachai Bunkun – 1st place
Lalita Sanitpan – 2nd plade
Supawat Munken – 3rd place
The winners received a certificate and a cash prize.
Aj. Dario A. Mando graces the activity with his inspirational message to the student participants. Beside him is Patamapon khamchoo, the program host.

Anantachai Bunkun, 1st place, receives a cash award from Dr. Ma. Arlen Arellado, subject teacher and organizer of the activity.
Second place Lalita Sanitpan delivers the poem “Richard Cory” by Edwin Arlington Robinson.
