Mass Media in English subject, first for English for Business Communication students
Experiencing first as many people say is difficult but worthy of the exerted efforts and provided sacrifices. Our year 3 English for Business Communication majoring students had a chance to take up Mass Media in English subject, having been specifically offered to Education-English students, for the very first time. Learning this subject, students were tasked to ink their autobiographies into booklets. They played several roles rolled into one: as the booklet author, illustrator, book and layout designer, researcher, etc. The second task that they had the know-how was newspaper writing. Roles such as being the editor, news story writer, interviewer, layout artist, researcher, news reporter were among the many functions that were put on their shoulders. Thirdly, the task for radio production lesson was for them to be a radio DJ. Here, they wrote their own scripts, chose the playlist/s to broadcast, love and life guru, singer and of course, DJ. Fourthly, for the TV production, they were positioned as on and off the camera people: news anchor, director, video editor etc. Finally, the blogging activity demanded them to be bloggers with much independence of choosing their own contents.
