STIC Teams Place 1st and 3rd in PDCA Contest

Students from the Faculty of Education and the Faculty of Humanities and Social Science formed a winning team, capturing first prize at the PDCA Project Presentation Contest 2018, at Rangsit University on January 22nd. In a friendly annual rivalry with teams from Rangsit University, Asia Pacific University, and Stamford University, St. Theresa International College’s teams came out ahead. But, as Dr. Yongyut Khamkhong, Dean of Humanities and Social Science, mentioned “This is a competition where everyone wins, as the projects directly give back to communities in Thailand.”

St. Theresa International College’s project titled “STIC Students Help Karen Hill-Tribe Children in Ratchaburi” was presented by undergraduates Piyada Phoo-on, Jeeranun Klunprasit, Komkrit Machal, Phimpitchaya Inthi, and Natjira Palasee, accompanied by Dr. Khamkhong, who went on to say, “This is an ideal activity, as we can help others in the community. It’s a chance for students and community to come together to create a better future. We want other institutes to follow our example.”

Also placing high, at third place was a team of undergraduates from Air Traffic Control, Faculty of Business Administration, with a project titled “Aviation Sharing”. Accompanied by Aj. Chartchai Charoensook, team members included Satayu Thongperm, Disawan Nunthachai, Thanyaporn Kuntabutr, Methawee Yachai, and Parichat Singyabut.

PDCA (Plan–Do–Check–Act/Adjust) is an iterative four-step management method used for the control and continual improvement of processes and/or products within in any business or institution. The competition has been taking place among the four universities for many years. The aim is to give students the opportunity to illustrate how abilities and knowledge gained in applying the PDCA help create projects beneficial to communities.

Students from different faculties in the four schools team up with advisors or counselors to prepare a project that is then presented using PowerPoint and poster presentations. Each project must be within one of five following categories: Academics, Environment, Preservation of Arts and Culture, Sports, or Research. The judging criteria is based upon adherence of the PDCA method within the project.

CONGRATULATIONS to ALL participants for achieving such an honor while serving as an example to us all on the importance of reaching out to others in our communities. Hopefully, your efforts will lead to other institutes creating similar contests.
